FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is the RocksKool policy? 1. Treat everyone and everything with respect 2. Love music! What are your teaching methods? We teach our pupils through the songs they wish to learn. This could be anything they like. They should bring a CD of these songs with them to each lesson. Our tutors are able to teach the songs by just listening to the CD. Each term starts with lessons on a one to one basis. This is important for the pupil to have their own space and to improve their technique or generally just learn how to play their instrument. Band practices start end of April/beginning of May and half way through October. Your child will know whether or not they want to be in a band. This will depend on their level of competency in their chosen instrument and also their confidence. If they choose not to be in a band, they continue with their lessons as normal. However, if they would like to be in a band, it is up to you to let me know if they have any preferences as to who they would like to be in a band with. The deadlines for this information are 01 March and 30 September. When are the performances? The performances take place twice a year for all the students at the Concorde 2. Before the shows there are pupils only warm up gigs for the students and their friends. How do the pupils progress? As the pupils progress and get older, we have a special program for them. Roughly every three months, we book a smaller venue like the Pressure Point and put on five or six of our teen bands. The criteria for this is that they must be able to practice on their own, prepare a set of up to 30 minutes and write some of their own songs. The concerts will be open to the general public so they need to be sure that their set is as good as it can be. How much does it cost? RocksKool prices are determined every academic year. Lessons are half an hour, band rehearsals are one hour. For 2007/8, the price is £12 per lesson and £12 per band rehearsal. Payment is either by standing order or in advance. Do you teach songwriting? Yes, we have tutors who will encourage and help with creative songwriting as and when required.
